On the first day, Okayama University, Leuphana University of Lüneburg, Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences, and York University, member institutions of the JSPS core-to-core programme, held a special session entitled “UNESCO Chairs for Sustainable Future” in collaboration with nine other universities in the world. The session formulated and shared some ideas for further collaboration among institutions in the priority action areas of UNESCO ESD for 2030: (1) advancing policy; (2) transforming learning environments; (3) building capacities of educators; (4) empowering and mobilizing youth; and (5) accelerating local level actions. The findings gained from the JSPS core-to-core programme were presented in the third area above.
On the third day, Professor Hiroki Fujii, the coordinator of the JSPS core-to-core programme, took the stage in a session entitled “Putting ESD into Action.” In the priority action area of building capacities of educators, he presented the developed “Asia- Pacific ESD Teacher Competency Framework.” This framework was the basis of research undertaken in the programme.
